Patch building: "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince on the Nord Stage 4
Thought I'd take you with me as I patch up sounds for the ambitious "Power Trio Plays Prince" show we're debuting next month at Tramlines Festival, Leopold Square - clearly lots of work to be done but let's see how it sounds a month from now. Here's "let's go crazy". Will do a detailed breakdown as to how this all works on the @NordKeyboards #nordstage4

Canned Heat: Jamiroquai

Clearly an important influence on the music I love to play, Jamiroquai are an utterly incredible band. I have been very lucky to see them live several times now and had to cover this absolute banger. The Power Trio are Alex McGibbon on bass and Tom Townsend on drums. I'm playing a Nord Stage 4 and routing the organ through a Neo Minivent 2
7 Days: Craig David

Here's our take on an absolute classic the man himself, Craig David. Seems like only yesterday we were hearing this jam for the first time, what a summer that was! The Power Trio is Tom Townsend on drums and Alex McGibbon on bass. I am playing a Nord Stage 4 with Neo Minivent on the organ.
Lady Day and John Coltrane: Gil Scott-Heron

Gil Scott-Heron remains high up there in my list of inspiration and I have been playing this tune since the beginning. Here's the mighty Power Trio in my lounge last week. Featuring Tom Townsend on drums and Alex McGibbon on Bass. I am playing a Rhodes MK1 and Moog Little Phatty Stage II.

So good!
Nice!!!
great playing! 🙌🏽🎶💙
Thanks, Ryan! ❤
This sounds exactly like the Les Claypool / Buckethead jam. Eerily similar.
I don't know it but very happy with the reference - it doesn't get better than that! Thanks for visiting.

Nice
Many thanks for checking out the channel.
Would love to see comparison with the Keyboard and the new standalone Maschine +
I'd love a Maschine+ but can't justify the £££ until they sort a few things out. My eyes are on the mk2 and I reckon by then they should have a new iteration of the software we have needed for so long. Tbf - I would love a job with Native Instruments I've had Komplete and Maschine from the very beginning.
Love this ❤️
Really appreciate the kind words. Thanks for having a look/listen.
I'm on my second one of these, both Mk2. I've found on both there is a lot of noise when the overdrive/valve is turned on. Sounds like some unintentional hum and I don't find it desirable. Is yours the same? I'm wondering if this is a 'feature' of the unit.
Definitely a "feature" of the unit by the sounds of things. I presumed that maybe my valve was a bit dodgy or needed servicing but your comment has reassured me that it's probably something to do with the cab. I've actually just sold mine - not because of the noise, but because my Minivent2 sounds just as good (better?) and is far less hassle on a gig. Shame - because I love those rotors pushing actual air around....
No doubt the devices are nifty - I’ve got the same - but can you create a single greater than 8 bars?
Sure. Maschine has a great arranger - just takes a bit of getting fluid with scenes and then mapping them out.
Superb by the way
Really appreciate the feedback - thanks for tuning in.
Scanning your settings , just got a 6d 😅
Can't beat the ol Jimmy Smith setting: 888000000, perc fast, C3....and 808000000 no perc for comping....
8888, no perc is also kinda cool - think it's Jack McDuff that uses that setting. My all time fave is 8248, 3rd perc, Leslie fast - proper neosoul gospel soloing funkiness
that's really good, it would be cool to know the ni packs you use the most/favorite for this genre, for both drums/bass and synths, thank you!
Honestly, I use them all across all genres. It's less about sound selection and more about chord voicing, timing/feel and arranging. "Stacks" and "Lofi Glow" are good starters for this vibe though. I love the 90s vibe of "Borough Chops" too.
Nice playing - would be great if we could see the pedal settings!
Totally right. I fixed this for subsequent videos. I cringe now at my early attempts to share stuff! Thanks for watching all the same
Great performance 👊
Thank you. I love playing with these guys.
Hi Guys has any one got any tips where to find a set of top horns with motors and speaker must be in 240 volts as I live in UK not USA type 110 volts I have a Hammond T500 with Leslie wheel ,but to build a full size Leslie I need set of top horns not sure if horns come with motor and speaker ,would appreciate some advice I have a Nord C2D but realy would love a nice Leslie or like to build thank you for any help.PS also would any one have cabinet diagram or measurements.
Here in the UK, there's an awesome Hammond tech guru called Bob. www.bobbirchmusic.com/performer - he knows his stuff and might be able to fix you up or point you in the right direction. Christian is also living in that world and may be able to offer some nuggets of advice. www.christianmadden.co.uk/about
Yeah I use this with my Nord C2D!! Awesome!!
Very cool!
There are 2 ,models of these correct? Do they come with led lights or did you install?
Hi. I took the back off and used some cable ties to install the LED strips. They look ace on a gig behind the rotors.
Way better than the nord sim leslie!
True. I gotta say though, recently bought a minivent2 and that is the best of both worlds. Need to do a video soon for that pedal.
@@ryantaylorlive i got a mini vent and didnt like it. sounded like a phase shifter and the high frequencies weren't clean.
Fair enough. It's all subjective isn't it. I've tweaked the hell outta mine and love it
Great work! Stockholm EP sample for the Rhodes?
Yes! It's amazing. I even prefer it to my actual MK1.
Very good
Many thanks. 🙏
I Love #CraigDavid Whole Album! 😍🥰

🎉yeah🎉!Thx guys:-)!!!
Our pleasure. More to come next week.....
The Rhodes sound is pretty f’n nice actually for an emulated sound!
Scarbee Rhodes is great. However: I've just upgraded to Scarbee 88 and it's a huge improvement. Also: Universal Audio's Electra was on sale recently so I got that too and good lawd, it is utterly awesome - has that vintage fluffy, warm magic to it that glues tracks together. Will have to do a video of my various Rhodes plugins alongside my actual Rhodes Mk1. Thanks for watching.
incredible sounds, you have so much class dude!
Very kind words, thankyou. Planning on releasing a load more of this kind of content over the coming weeks - thankyou for watching. R
I own the nord d6 the d6 is a stand alone organ! Without any Leslie!!! Waste of money!!!
Yeah, the 6D does a decent job. I feel the telltale signs of the onboard rotary simulator is when the top drawbars are pulled out. I also feel the 6D sounds artificial with clean organ (no chorus/vibrato) and Leslie on fast. The 2101 sorts all of that out. Since making this video, I also have a Minivent which also sounds great with the 6D. Of course, Nord make great sounding organs - but for my ears, the extra 10% from the 2101 (or even the minivent) is absolutely worth it.
good evening, I have a midi keyboard komplete kontrol m32 and on the display it says "midi mode" can you tell me how to solve it? I thank you in advance
Chill spot 🤘🏼
It's a top spot is Padley Gorge. Good walks down the river, or up into the hills. Fully recommend.
hi during your video are you using a sound card? or the mk3 sound card only? Are you recording with a Zoom brand recorder? how does it connect? is it better than an irig 2?
Hi. For this one, I'm coming straight out of the mk3 master outs into 2x jack in on the Zoom. I also have a lapel mic going into the Zoom. In post, I mix the production audio with the mic. Then, I'm syncing that audio to my multicam and screengrab for the final edit. When I'm in my main studio, it's loads easier cos I just route everything through my UAD Apollo software straight out into OBS. Not sure about iRig but the Zoom offers multiple inputs, phantom power, high pass, 48v, etc....
Hi Ryan. Thanks for the very useful information. I've tweaked the vent, as you suggested, and I think I now need to try it out on a gig with the band. I would also like to try my 2101, but I must admit that the extra set up procedures and the sheer weight of the cab puts me off a bit, especially if the vent can do the job adequately. One further question, if I may? I noticed that you sometimes used the 2101 with the rotary in the off position/C3 tremolo on. How do you accomplish this with the mini vent2? As far as I'm aware, you have to press the bypass and slow/fast buttons on the vent to put the speaker into stationary mode. Do you do this, or just use it slow - fast. Once again, thank you so much for your advice.
Hi. Ok so C3 chorus/trem is separate to the Leslie slow/fast/stop. On the 2101 you can stop the rotors by long pressing the foot pedal. On the mini vent I have it setup for the left switch stop, right switch speed, both together bypass (takes a bit of menu diving but I like it setup this wey).
Hi Ryan. Very informative and great playing. I've had a 2101 for some years, but only use it at home with a Korg CX3. I currently use a Nord Stage 4 Compact for gigs with a covers band and only last week tried it out with a neo mini vent 2. Unfortunately, after our 1st spot, I decided to unplug it and continued to use the Nord's internal rotary. I found that the vent's rotary effect sounded a bit 'heavy' compared to the Nord's built in sound. Of course, I would much prefer the sound from the 2101, but the reduced volume level would be a problem. How do you manage to mic it to get a good amount of volume. When I tried to mic mine with the CX3, I found that it didn't capture the horn effect very well. It would be great to take it out with the band.
Hi bud. The minivent needs tweaking. Pull the (virtual) mic distance back and dial back the drive for jazz, and crank it for heavier styles. If I put a mic (or 2) on the 2101, I either need the cabinet right behind my head on a loud stage, or off stage so I can crank it in my monitors without it feeding back. The best situation with the 2101 is running it through the desk with the band, and using in-ears. It sounds ace in stereo with a stereo IEM mix - but then we're talking more complex setups. So: I use the vent if I just need instant grit that I can turn up loud in the monitors, 2101 when I have the time and tech to run it on stage. I never use the internal now - the vent really changes the game when those upper drawbars tend to give away the internal sim Hope this helps and thanks for viewing
fucking awesome, will get mine soon! :)
Thank you. Have fun - the NI ecosystem is full of treats
wooow preset of lead please? thanks
Without digging up the project, I can't say for sure. I think it's one of the leads in "Stacks". Will have a look for you when I get a sec
@@ryantaylorlive ok, thank you very much the lead sound is really beautiful and you play it very well! ok I would be delighted to have this preset thank you

Thanks for watching. I will certainly have a listen at some point and see if I agree. Cheers friend. ❤️🔥👊
@@ryantaylorlive 👍🏼 thanks for sharing
Smooth... that sub is it... 🌊
Thanks homie
Did i get it right, reverb is working even though mix 0%?
The mix knob controls the delay, the spring knob mixes the verb. Works a treat.
@@ryantaylorlive One good reason to update v2🤝
@@turjis8838spring reverb is in v1 as well.
This rhodes sounds incredible
Thanks bud. Rhodes pianos are incredible instruments
How loud is it on stage? I found vintage leslies not loud enough to compete with guitars, leslie 3300 was plenty loud enough but obvs not as compact as the 2102
It's ok. I have to mic it though for large spaces.
Is this the first version Deco? I think a newer version came out fairly recently
Hi. Yes. The new one has an extra knob and midi.
Xcellent Playing Ryan!❤
Many thanks
hmm im between this or the deco. primarily to use with my soon to arrive Elta Solar 42.
I love both pedals but get more use on stage out of El Cap at the moment.
Do you do cord mode on maschine or the 32?
Hi. You can do chord mode on either. I've never used it tbh but imagine it would be useful for someone less confident about planting chords on the keys.
